Malgren and Lepper Claw their Way to a Top Ten Finish in Ohio

All the ingredients for a difficult weekend: a field limited to 75 cars out of 85 entered; a violent wind storm during the week end that destroyed many team awnings and actually flipped an empty race trailer; a violent late race crash in which three cars rolled. Quite an achievement for rookie Phil Malgren. Phil brought the Powell prepped #06 S3 Magazine/ Corsa Performance Cobalt home second out of seven Cobalts entered in the race.

Lexington Ohio (June 27, 2006) -- That was exciting!” exclaimed Phil Malgren after the race, “I hung on as best I could during the race. The track was very slippery and it is my first time here. When the #68 Mazda spun and the three Cobalts in front of me went to the high side to avoid it, I ducked to the inside and passed them all!”

New Collaboration for Powell Team with Exedy Global Parts Corporation

The Powell team has used Exedy clutches since 2001, in their Grand American championship winning Corvette C5. Now the Powell RaceShop built Collision Craft Cobalts will use the Exedy Hyper Clutch, for added durability and performance.
San Pablo California. (June 9, 2006) -- Team Leader John Powell is always happy to add to the team’s competitive edge. John points out that Grand Am Cup rules for the Street Tuner class facilitate the use of aftermarket parts in a number of key areas, to reduce cost to racers and improve durability. “In racing you need more clamping load for the clutch plates, to endure the rigors of endurance racing. “ John says, “Our good friend, racer Mike Weinberg from Rockland Standard Gear has been a stalwart supporter of Exedy products for many years, and all of our cars to date have had Exedy clutches. Now Exedy has an aftermarket Hyper clutch for Cobalt it is natural that we would use it. Thankfully, the Grand Am Cup rules permit it! We also must not forget that we have a 12 hour race at the end of the season. Exedy give us more robust parts that we can use, and we are very happy with this.”

Speed, Style and Sound Magazine to Sponsor Collision Craft Cobalts and New Driver for the Mid Ohio Grand AM Cup Race

Car owner Phil Malgren has added Georgia resident, racer Todd Lamb to the driver line up. Lamb joins Daytona Prototype ace driver ‘MAC’ Camirand, Dave Thilenius, and Phil Malgren.

San Pablo California. (June 8, 2006) -- Exciting news from the Powell Motorsport Collision Craft team is not simply the addition of a strong new driver, but the addition of a new sponsor. Phil Malgren commented: “I believe that a magazine like S3 fits right into the Grand American vision for the Street Tuner class in Grand Am Cup. And you know that at the Powell team it’s not just about the ‘bling’, it’s about the marketing and merchandising opportunities that this presents.

Top Ten Result for Improving Collision Craft Cobalt Team in Virginia

A 40 mile sprint race filled with 2 hours of full course caution pace laps was not part of the plan for the Corsa Performance sponsored #06 Cobalt in Virginia. But that’s the way it turned out, with just five laps of green flag racing at a time. 8th place for the #06 and a brilliant Street Tuner class win for the GBM Motorsports #01 Chevy Cobalt gives Chevy fans optimism for a championship winning season.
